Read instructions and get ready to cook
Prepare vegetables
Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and cut it into quarters. Remove the core and thinly slice the cabbage. Peel and thinly slice the onion. Peel and mince the garlic cloves.
Heat oil
In a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
Sauté onion and garlic
Add the sliced onion to the hot oil and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute more.
Add cabbage
Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir to combine with the onion and garlic.
Add broth and vinegar
Pour in the chicken broth and apple cider vinegar, and stir to combine.
Season and simmer
Sprinkle the cabbage with salt and black pepper, and stir to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook until the cabbage is very tender, about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Adjust seasoning
Taste the cabbage and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper, if needed.
Serve
Transfer the braised cabbage to a serving dish and serve hot.
