Prepare the chicken
Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season both sides of each chicken breast with salt and black pepper.
Prepare the garlic and thyme
Mince the garlic cloves. Remove the leaves from the thyme stems and finely chop them.
Sear the chicken
In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken breasts and cook for 6-8 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Make the butter sauce
Remove the chicken breasts from the skillet and set them aside on a plate. Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter to the skillet. Add the minced garlic and chopped thyme. Cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant, stirring constantly.
Finish the dish
Return the chicken breasts to the skillet and spoon the butter sauce over them. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the chicken is heated through and the sauce is slightly thickened.
Serve and enjoy
Transfer the Buttered Chicken Breasts to a serving platter and spoon the remaining butter sauce over them. Serve hot, accompanied by your favorite side dishes.
