Steps

Read instructions and get ready to cook

1
Prepare oven and baking dish

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Butter a 9x9 inch baking dish.

2
Prepare apples

Peel, core and slice apples into 1/4 inch thick slices. Juice the lemon. Toss apple slices with lemon juice in a large bowl. Spread apples evenly in prepared baking dish.

3
Make topping

In a medium bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cut in cold butter with a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4
Assemble and bake

Sprinkle topping evenly over the apples. Bake in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, with vanilla ice cream if desired.
