1
Dough and Fillings

Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Cut 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter into small pieces and use your fingers or a pastry blender to work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add 3/4 cup of milk, stirring until a soft dough forms. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut the ham into thin strips, and grate 1 cup of cheddar cheese, setting them aside for assembly.

2
Assemble the Rolls

Evenly distribute the thin strips of ham over the rolled-out dough, leaving a slight margin at the edges. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese on top of the ham. Starting at one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Once rolled, use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1-inch sections. Place the sections cut side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, allowing some space between each for expansion.

3
Bake and Serve

Beat 1 large egg in a small bowl and use it to brush the tops of the rolls; this will give them a beautiful golden finish. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese has melted. Allow the rolls to cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving. This will make them easier to handle and ensure the cheese has settled.
