Read instructions and get ready to cook
Prepare onion
Cut off 1/4 inch from the top of the onion; peel the outer skin.
Cut onion
Cut the onion into 12-16 vertical wedges, stopping 1/2 inch from the root end.
Prepare batter
In a bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Mix wet ingredients
In another bowl, whisk together eggs and milk.
Coat onion
Dip the onion in egg mixture, then coat with flour mixture. Repeat for a second coating.
Chill onion
Place the coated onion in the freezer for 15 minutes to set the coating.
Heat oil
In a deep fryer or large pot, heat vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
Fry onion
