Steps

Read instructions and get ready to cook

1
Prepare the sausage

Slice the Italian sausage links into 1/2-inch thick rounds.

2
Prepare the vegetables

Slice the bell peppers into 1/2-inch wide strips. Thinly slice the onion. Mince the garlic cloves.

3
Cook the sausage

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced Italian sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.

4
Cook the vegetables

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the sliced bell peppers and onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 30 seconds.

5
Add the tomatoes and seasonings

Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes.

6
Add the sausage and simmer

Return the cooked sausage to the skillet with the vegetables and tomato sauce. Stir to combine and simmer for an additional 5 minutes, or until the sausage is heated through and the flavors have melded.

7
Serve and enjoy

Serve the Sausage with Bell Peppers hot, over pasta or with a side of crusty bread if desired.
