Read instructions and get ready to cook
Soak beans
Rinse the dry white beans and soak them in cold water overnight or for at least 8 hours.
Drain and rinse beans
Drain the soaked beans and rinse them under cold running water.
Chop vegetables
Peel and chop the onions. Peel and mince the garlic cloves.
Preheat oven
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Combine ingredients
In a large baking dish, combine the soaked beans, chopped onions, minced garlic, tomato sauce, olive oil, paprika, dried thyme, bay leaves, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
Add water
Pour the water into the baking dish and stir to combine.
Cover and bake
Cover the baking dish with foil and bake the beans for 1 hour.
Uncover and continue baking
Remove the foil and stir the beans. Continue baking, uncovered, for an additional 30 minutes or until the beans are tender and the sauce has thickened.
Remove bay leaves
Remove the bay leaves from the baking dish and discard them.
Serve
Serve the Balkan Baked Beans hot as a main course or side dish.
