Steps

Read instructions and get ready to cook

1
Rinse rice

Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear.

2
Toast cumin seeds

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and toast until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.

3
Add rice and water

Add the rinsed rice, water, and salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

4
Cook rice

Bring the rice mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and has absorbed the water, about 15-20 minutes.

5
Prepare lemon

While the rice cooks, zest and juice the lemon.

6
Fluff rice

When the rice is done, remove the saucepan from heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.

7
Add lemon

Stir in the lemon zest and juice, tossing to distribute evenly.

8
Serve

Transfer the cumin rice to a serving bowl and serve hot as a side dish.
