Read instructions and get ready to cook
Rinse rice
Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear.
Toast cumin seeds
In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and toast until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
Add rice and water
Add the rinsed rice, water, and salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
Cook rice
Bring the rice mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer until the rice is tender and has absorbed the water, about 15-20 minutes.
Prepare lemon
While the rice cooks, zest and juice the lemon.
Fluff rice
When the rice is done, remove the saucepan from heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
Add lemon
Stir in the lemon zest and juice, tossing to distribute evenly.
Serve
Transfer the cumin rice to a serving bowl and serve hot as a side dish.
