Read instructions and get ready to cook
Preheat the Oven
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Baking Pan
Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on the sides for easy removal.
Melt the Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt butter.
Mix Wet Ingredients
Add sugar to the melted butter and stir until combined. Add eggs and vanilla, whisking until smooth.
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
Add Chocolate Chips
Fold in chocolate chips.
Transfer to Baking Pan
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake the Brownies
Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Cool Brownies
Remove from oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
Make Caramel Sauce
While brownies are cooling, combine brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
Cook Caramel Mixture
Stir constantly until sugar dissolves and mixture begins to bubble, about 3-4 minutes.
Add Cream to Caramel
Carefully add heavy cream to the caramel (it will bubble vigorously). Continue stirring until smooth.
Simmer Caramel
Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1-2 minutes until slightly thickened.
Remove from Heat
Take caramel off heat and let cool slightly to thicken more.
Drizzle Caramel
Use the parchment paper to lift brownies out of the pan. Drizzle the warm caramel sauce over the brownies.
Let Caramel Set
Allow the caramel to set for about 10 minutes.
Cut into Squares
Cut brownies into 16 squares.
Serve
Serve at room temperature.
