Read instructions and get ready to cook
Cook the pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 16 oz of penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the cooking water.
Prepare the chicken
While the pasta cooks, cut 1 lb of boneless, skinless chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Season with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
Cook the chicken
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
Prepare the garlic
Mince 4 garlic cloves.
Cook the broccoli
In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 4 cups of broccoli florets and the minced garlic. Sauté for 4-5 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
Prepare the cheese sauce

Combine ingredients
Add the cooked chicken and pasta to the skillet with the cheese sauce. Toss to coat evenly, adding some of the reserved pasta cooking water if needed to thin the sauce.
