Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add 16 oz of penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain the pasta, reserving 1/2 cup of the cooking water.

Prepare the chicken

While the pasta cooks, cut 1 lb of boneless, skinless chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces. Season with 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.

Cook the chicken

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

Prepare the garlic

Mince 4 garlic cloves.

Cook the broccoli

In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 4 cups of broccoli florets and the minced garlic. Sauté for 4-5 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender-crisp.

In the skillet with the broccoli, add 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour and stir to combine. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk and 1 cup of chicken broth. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
