Steps

Read instructions and get ready to cook

1
Prepare the dough

In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of flour, yeast, and salt.

2
Heat milk and butter

In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter until butter is melted. Let cool to 110°F (43°C).

3
Combine wet and dry ingredients

Add the milk mixture, eggs, and sugar to the flour mixture. Beat until well combined.

4
Knead the dough

Gradually add the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Knead for 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.

5
First rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

6
Prepare the filling

Finely chop the chocolate. In a bowl, mix chopped chocolate, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

7
Shape the dough

Punch down the dough and divide into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a 12-inch circle.

8
Assemble the star

Place one circle on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread 1/3 of the filling, leaving a 1/2-inch border. Repeat with two more layers.

9
Top layer and cut

Place the final circle on top. Place a 3-inch round cookie cutter in the center. Cut the dough into 16 equal strips from the edge to the cutter.

10
Braid the star

Take two adjacent strips and twist them away from each other twice. Pinch the ends together. Repeat with all strips.

11
Second rise

Cover the star and let rise for 30 minutes or until puffy.

12
Prepare for baking

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Melt the remaining butter and brush over the star.

13
Bake

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
