Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Sauce

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic, cook until softened. Add Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, black pepper, and dried oregano. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Cook Lasagna Noodles

Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare Cheese Mixture

In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan cheese, and 1 beaten egg. Mix well.

Assemble the Lasagna

Spread a layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer with lasagna noodles, half of the cheese mixture, and more meat sauce. Repeat layers, ending with noodles and meat sauce. Top with remaining mozzarella cheese.

Bake

Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until cheese is golden and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve

Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh basil before serving.
