Steps

Read instructions and get ready to cook

1
Prepare the green beans

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Rinse the green beans and trim the ends. In a large pot of boiling water, cook the green beans for 5 minutes or until tender-crisp. Drain the beans and set them aside.

2
Prepare the mushrooms and onion

Clean the mushrooms with a damp paper towel and slice them. Peel and finely chop the onion.

3
Make the mushroom sauce

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sliced mushrooms. Sauté for 5 minutes or until the vegetables are softened. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and stir in the sour cream, salt, and black pepper.

4
Assemble the casserole

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, combine the cooked green beans and mushroom sauce. Stir gently to coat the beans evenly. Sprinkle the fried onions evenly over the top of the casserole.

5
Bake and serve

Bake the Green Beans Casserole for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is bubbly. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving hot as a side dish.
