Prepare the skewers

If using wooden skewers, soak in water for 15 minutes to prevent burning.

Prepare the hot dogs

Remove hot dogs from packaging. Pat dry with paper towels.

Skewer the hot dogs

Insert a skewer lengthwise through the center of each hot dog. The skewer should go all the way through for stability.

Place a hot dog on a cutting board with the skewer horizontal. Using a sharp knife, make a diagonal cut into the hot dog. Start at one end and spiral around the hot dog toward the other end. Gently pull and twist the hot dog along the skewer. This will open up the spiral cuts. The hot dog should extend to about twice its original length.

Repeat the spiral cutting and stretching process with the remaining hot dogs.
